Candle FAQ
What wax do your candles use?
Our candles are made with a natural coconut & rapeseed wax blend. This plant-based wax burns cleanly and evenly and is free from paraffin, soy additives and synthetic ingredients. Natural wax candles are often preferred for a softer scent and a more natural home fragrance.
Do you use essential oils or fragrance oils?
All Staithes Candle Co candles are scented with pure essential oils. We do not use synthetic fragrance oils. Essential oil candles give a gentler, more natural aroma and are ideal for relaxation, aromatherapy and everyday use at home.
Are natural candles better than paraffin candles?
Many people choose natural candles because paraffin wax is petroleum-based, while natural candles are made from plant wax. Coconut & rapeseed wax burns cleaner and produces less soot, making it a popular choice for those looking for a more natural candle.
How long do your candles burn?
Our 180ml candles have an approximate burn time of around 35–40 hours when used correctly. For best results, allow the wax to melt across the surface on the first burn and keep the wick trimmed before each use.
Are your candles handmade?
Yes, all candles are handmade in small batches in North Yorkshire. Each candle is poured by hand using natural wax and essential oils to ensure consistent quality and a clean, even burn.
Are your candles suitable for sensitive people?
Because our candles are made with natural wax and essential oils, many people find the scent softer than synthetic candles. However, as with all fragranced products, those with sensitivities should use in a well-ventilated room and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Why choose essential oil candles?
Essential oil candles are often chosen for their gentle scent and aromatherapy benefits. Oils such as lavender, bergamot and patchouli are traditionally used to help create a calm, relaxing atmosphere, making them ideal for evenings and quiet spaces.
